encounter telenganaNational Human Rights Commission, NHRC has issued notice to Telangana government over alleged killing of five undertrials in police custody when they were being brought to Hyderabad in a court case on 7th of this month. Taking suo motu cognizance of media reports, the Commission issued notices to Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of the State in this regard. The NHRC has asked them to submit reports within two weeks.

The Commission in a statement said that prima facie, it appears that this is an instance of blatant use of disproportionate force resulting in loss of lives of under trials who were in judicial custody. It said, the matter was brought to the notice of the Commission during its Camp Sitting in Thiruvananthapuram. The Commission said, it will further take up the matter in its Camp Sitting to be held at Hyderabad on the 23rd of this month.
