Efforts to form an interim government in Nepal hit a deadlock after talks involving Gen Z protest representatives, Army Chief Ashikraj Sigdel, and President Ramchandra Paudel failed to yield an agreement, even after two days of negotiations.

Late last night, President Paudel met with Speaker Devraj Ghimire to explore constitutional solutions to the ongoing crisis. However, discussions around dissolving Parliament remained inconclusive, further deepening the political uncertainty.

Meanwhile, Nepal entered the fifth consecutive day of Gen Z-led protests, which have gripped the nation. Authorities briefly relaxed the curfew in the Kathmandu Valley until 11 a.m. to allow access to essential services. However, a full curfew remains in place until 6 a.m. on September 13.

As of now, no consensus has been reached on who will lead the interim government. In a sign of partial normalization, public transport resumed from the New Bus Park in Kathmandu, enabling many stranded passengers to travel. Additionally, the Nepal Insurance Authority has directed insurance companies to swiftly process claims related to incidents since September 8, in response to the unrest and related damages.

President Ramchandra Paudel, in coordination with Nepali Army Chief General Ashok Sigdel, held discussions throughout the day and night in the presence of former Chief Justice Sushila Karki and constitutional scholars. Last night, President and Speaker Devraj Ghimre met and stressed that in the current situation, solutions may be explored within the ambit of the Constitution. So the discussion on whether or not to dissolve the Parliament failed to reach a consensus. Therefore, the discussion is about to begin again today at 9 am.

In Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts, prohibitory orders are issued on September 12th to 11:00 am. The curfew is issued from 7:00 pm on September 12 to 6:00 pm on September 13. Essential services can be operated only by public and union organisations. To make the life of the people comfortable, the cost of arrangement of daily consumables will remain open from 6 AM to 11 AM and from 5 PM to 7 PM today.
