Says govt has increased agriculture budget in last 4 years to achieve target of doubling farmers’ income by 2022

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today reiterated that the NDA government is working towards ensuring that the income of farmers double by 2022.

Interacting with farmers from across the country via the Narendra Modi App, Mr Modi said his government is facilitating proper assistance wherever required to achieve this end. Saying that he has faith in country’s farmers, Mr Modi pointed out that the credit for serving the country with food goes to them.

The Prime Minister said his government is stressing on four key points- lowering the cost of raw materials, ensuring fare value of yield, stopping wastage of produce, and alternative sources of income for farmers.

He said besides record production of grains, production of fruits and vegetables have also shown an increase. Mr Modi expressed delight in interacting with the farmers from over 600 districts.

Highlights of Modi’s address to the farmers
1. Our government is working tirelessly for our farming community.
2. We have made efforts to ensure that farmers get adequate price for their produce. Our commitment towards that finds expression in this year’s budget.
3. Government has doubled the budget for agriculture to Rs 2.12 lakh crore to achieve its objective of doubling farm income by 2022.
4. The country is not just witnessing record foodgrain production but milk, fruit and vegetable output too are at all-time highs.
5. Soil health cards are being provided to help farmers better understand soil nutrient status of his/her holding and advice them on the dosage of fertilisers.
6. We have also made coating policy mandatory to bring down sale of fertilisers, despite record farm production.
