The Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Sunil Lanba has said that aviation arm of the Indian Navy will double its aircraft fleet in the coming decade to nearly 500.

Lanba said at a press conference in Hyderabad Saturday that the Navy has 238 aircraft including fighters, helicopters and maritime patrol aircraft at present. He said, they were working on a plan to increase the number to 500 in a decade’s time.

Lamba added that the defence services are committed to the government’s ‘Make in India’ program and currently as many as 34 ships and submarines are under construction in Indian shipyards.

The Admiral reviewed the Combined Graduation Parade at Air Force Academy in Hyderabad. 105 flight cadets passed out today as Flying Officers who include 15 women officers. Air Force Academy said in a statement, that the officers include two fighter pilots.
