India is paying homage to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 157th birth anniversary today. A Sarva Dharma Prarthana Sabha was held at Bapu’s Samadhi, Rajghat in the National Capital.

President Droupadi Murmu attended the Sarva Dharma Prarthana this morning and paid floral tributes to the Father of the Nation. 

Vice President C P Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal, and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. 

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that Mahatma Gandhi’s entire life is a beacon of truth, non-violence, compassion, and service.

Sharing a social media post, Mr Modi noted that Bapu’s ideals will continue to pave the way for humanity in every era. He wished that the timeless message of Mahatma Gandhi keep guiding the countrymen towards a better society and a Viksit Bharat.

The Nation also pays homage to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 122nd birth anniversary today. He was born on 2nd October 1904 in Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Nagar, previously known as Mughalsarai in Uttar Pradesh.

As a teenager, he joined India’s freedom struggle and participated in the Non-Cooperation Movement in 1921. Following Independence, Shastri held several important positions in Uttar Pradesh and later in the Union Government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tribute to the former Prime Minister at his memorial, Vijay Ghat in the national capital this morning.

Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory in view of Gandhi Jayanti at Rajghat and the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at Vijay Ghat today.

The Traffic Police informed that Special traffic arrangements will be in place in and around Rajghat, Ring Road and adjoining roads to facilitate the programme ensure smooth and safe movement of traffic and pedestrians. The traffic police informed that traffic may be regulated or diverted between 5 am and 11 am in the morning today.

The affected routes include Ring Road: Rajghat to Salim Garh Y-Point towards ISBT Kashmirir Gate, Nishad Raj Marg and Raja Ram Kohli Marg.

The traffic police advised the citizens to plan their journeys in advance and allow additional travel time. It also advised them to avoid the affected roads and stretches wherever possible prefer Delhi Metro and other public transport.
