PARIKARIndia’s Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today said that the Myanmar operation has to changed mindset in the country. Parikar said those who fear India’s new posture have already started reacting. Addressing a seminar in New Delhi, Parrikar said, if the thinking pattern changes, lot of things change. He said, a simple action against insurgents has changed the mindset of the full security scenario in the country.

Eighteen Indian soldiers were killed and 15 others injured in an attack on a convoy of 6 Dogra Regiment in the Chandel district of Manipur on June 4. Two militants were also reportedly killed in a retaliatory fire then.

Reacting to the issue, Union Minister for Forest and Environment Prakash Javadekar said the country’s response will serve as a lesson to those who incite terror. He was talking to media persons in Mumbai yesterday outlining the achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government’s one year in office.

He added that the military’s action against insurgents with assistance from the Myanmarese government speaks volumes about India’s resolve to fight terror. This is a lesson and a message to all the terror groups that India will not hesitate in going beyond its geographical borders to eliminate terrorists. Replying to a query, he, however, refused to comment on if India will carry out a similar strike on Pakistan-based groups plotting terror against India.

Meanwhile, Myanmar has denied media reports that Indian forces attacked militants inside its territory and said it will not tolerate rebel groups using its soil to attack neighbours. Myanmar government said, Indian Army hunted down a group of militants operating in Manipur, close to Myanmar’s long western border.

In a Facebook post yesterday, Zaw Htay, director of Myanmar’s presidential office, said according to the information sent by Myanmar army’s local battalions, military operation by the Indian Army was carried out on the Indian side along the border. He said, Myanmar will not accept any foreigner who attacks neighbouring countries in the back and creates problems by using its territory.
