A Muslim group in Mumbai has requested the Chief Justice of India (CJI) to allow reconstruction of Babri masjid at its origional site. The group — Indians for Justice — held a press conference at Marathi Patrakar Sangh for the same on Saturday.
“What we have asked the CJI is that the structure that once stood as on December 6, 1992 be restored by the same principle as the idol of Ram Lalla was restored after the Babri Masjid demolition at the same site. The case of the title deed can go on in the meantime,” said Farid Khan, convenor of the Indians for Justice which has written the letter to the CJI.
“The central government had passed a bill in 1947 that there will be status quo on all religious structures before 1947. So, there should have been a status quo in case of Babri too. The UP government had anyways given assurance to the SC that nothing will happen to it,” said Maulana Shoaib Koti, one of the speakers.
