Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar today said the militant infiltrations into Kashmir has come down during ever since the present government came into power.

Speaking to media in Hyderabad after re-naming the missile Complex after former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Thursday evening, he said the data of the past ten years shown this.

He further said terrorist elimination rate also has gone up.

The defence minister said the decision has been taken to allow women in combat areas in all three forces, but implementation in some areas may take more time due to lack of basic amenities. Referring to shifting of the annual Air Show, he said it will continue in Bengaluru for now, despite Karnataka chief minister’s appeal for shifting the venue, as a committee is looking into the matter.

Earlier, addressing scientists after paying floral tributes, Mr Parikkar said India will become self sufficient in missile technology in next five years.

He said the present gaps in the country’s missile technology will be identified and will be filled during next few years.

Stating that the biggest advantage in missile technology was Dr Kalam’s vision 2020.

Recalling his contribution to space and missile technology, the Defence minister said Hyderabad is Dr Kalam ‘s ‘Karmabhoomi’ and termed him as missile seeker of the country.

RCI Director Sateesh Reddy who is Defence Advisor to Defence minister was also present.

The Missile Complex comprising the Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL) and the Research Centre Imarath (RCI) in Hyderabad has been re-named after Dr APJ Abdul Kalam today. coinciding his 84th birth anniversary.
