A 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district on last night, sending tremors across several parts of the state and parts of Delhi-NCR. According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at around 10:24 p.m., with its epicentre in Chamoli at a depth of approximately 13 km.

Tremors were reported from Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Rudraprayag and Chamoli, while residents in Bhowali, Haldwani, Khatima, Rishikesh, Gopeshwar and Badrinath also felt the shaking. The tremors were strong enough to be noticed in parts of Delhi and the adjoining National Capital Region.

The NCS confirmed the earthquake at around 10:40 p.m. The magnitude of an earthquake measures energy released at its source, while intensity refers to how strongly the shaking is experienced at a particular location. The level of shaking can vary depending on factors such as earthquake depth and local geological conditions.
