Editors Guild of India, Press Club of India, Press Association, Indian Women’s Press Corps and several other organizations have demanded speedy investigation in the murder case of woman journalist Gauri Lankesh.

In a letter to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the organisations said, the murder has sent shock waves across the journalist community for its brazenness and also because it involves the killing of a woman journalist known for her outspoken views.

They said, Gauri Lankesh was a firm believer in the Indian Constitution and the values of democracy and secularism enshrined in it. The associations urged the State government to put in all efforts to nab the killers at the earliest in order to restore confidence in the journalist community as well as the people of India.

The 55-year-old Kannada journalist was shot dead by unidentified assailants at the entrance of her residence in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
