Ruling Trinamool Congress party in West Bengal has made a clean sweep of the three Municipal Corporation Elections of Bidhannagar and Assansol Muinicipal Corporations and 16 seats of Bali Municipality which have recently been inducted into the Howrah Municipal Corporation.

The election to these municipal corporations was held on Saturday, amidst reports of massive violence and alleged mass-scale rigging and booth capturing by the ruling Trianmool Congress.

Repoll to 9 seats in Bidhannagar and 2 seats in Assansol were held on Friday.

All results of these Municipal Corporations have now been declared.

In Assansol, the Trinamool Congress has bagged 74 seats while the Left bagged 17 seats, the congress 3 sates and the BJP 8 seats with 4 going to other candidates including independent.

In Bidhannagar from where maximum violence and booth capturing was reported, the Trinamool Congress has received 37 seats with the Congress and BJP share in 2 seats each.

In the 16 seats of Bali Municipality which have been recently inducted to Howrah Municipal Corporation, all the seats have gone to the Trinamool Congress with opposition failing to open their account.

Meanwhile, the entire opposition of the Left Front, the Congress and The BJP in the State have criticized and ridiculed these election results claiming that it is the result of mass scale violence, booth capturing and rigging allegedly indulged by the Trinamool Congress whose popularity, as the opposition says, has been weaning.

The opposition had earlier demanded annulment of the election process.

The newly appointed interim State Election Commissioner Mr. Alapon Bandopadhyay did not agree to the oppositions’ demand after reviewing different reports coming from the presiding officers, returning officers and other polling officers as well as the District Magistrates.

The State Election Commission had also reviewed CCTV, web cam and footages of different television channels before coming into a conclusion.
