Amid allegations that Egyptian national Eman Ahmed was not receiving proper treatment in a Mumbai hospital, Maharashtra’s Health Minister Deepak Sawant visited her on Thursday.

Considered to be world heaviest woman, Eman is currently undergoing treatment for obesity at the privately-owned Saifee Hospital. While the doctors have said that Eman’s weight had declined from 500 kgs to 176 kgs; her sister Shaimaa Selim has claimed that doctors are lying about Eman’s weight loss.

Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Maharashtra’s Health Minister said that Shaimaa’s allegations would affect the medical tourism sector. He added that Eman has lost significant weight and it shows in various tests.

Mr. Sawant said the Indian Government had extended a helping hand to Eman and her family by speedily processing their visas enabling their smooth arrival in February this year.

The minister said it was wrong to blame the doctors considering the progress made by Eman.
