Guests releasing the souvenit of National Workshop on Madhubani ArtALIGARH: Aligarh Muslim University, AMU recently organised a six-day National Workshop on “Madhubani Art: Tradition and Fusion”at the Moinuddin Ahmad Art Gallery. More than 100 participants from different parts of the country including Mumbai, Delhi, Agra, Noida, Bulandshahar and Aligarh, attended the workshop.

The workshop focused the amazing fusion of traditional forms, motifs and techniques of Madhubani art with contemporary themes.

At the valedictory function, chief guest, Mr. Santosh Kumar Das, delivered a lecture with a slide show on his artwork which depicted cruelty, insensitivity and hatred developing in people towards each other in the name of religion and vested political interests. He appreciated the overwhelming response of the participants in learning Madhubani art and affirmed high degree of creativity in them which they had displayed through their paintings. He hoped that artists of other art forms will be brought to Aligarh Muslim University for students’ learning.

Speaking on the occasion, the guest of honour, Prof. Azarmi Dukht Safavi, Director, Institute of Persian Studies, said that it was the beginning of renaissance of Art in Aligarh Muslim University. She appreciated the efforts of Dr. Badar Jahan, Coordinator of the Moinuddin Ahmad Art Gallery in promoting art in the University since the revival of Art Gallery. She acknowledged her potential, energy and dedication which she put in organizing a variety of art programmes at the gallery.

Prof. Safavi urged the University authorities to convert the Art Gallery into an Art Academy to develop art learning in the University with the help of regular courses.

Prof. Anis Ismail, Dean, Student’s Welfare, who also graced the function as guest of honour, applauded the efforts of the Coordinator in organizing large scale art activities for the benefits of the students of Aligarh Muslim University. He congratulated three artists who won “Best Creation Award” in the workshop.

Dr. Badar Jahan, Convener of the workshop, while proposing a vote of thanks, expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and the Pro-Vice Chancellor for their constant support to the Art Gallery.

On this occasion, certificates were distributed to the participants and a catalogue of the National Workshop was released with the details and glimpses of the workshop.
