Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today held a meeting with Member of Parliament and Head of the Egyptian Delegation, Sameh Shoukry, ahead of the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum 2026 in New Delhi today. In a social media post, Mr Birla said that during the meeting both the sides reflected on the enduring bonds between the two ancient civilizations and the renewed vigour in India-Egypt relations. He said that they also discussed avenues to deepen parliamentary cooperation through Parliamentary Friendship Groups and expand collaboration in pharmaceuticals, chemicals and industry. Mr Birla conveyed his appreciation for Egypt’s strong condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack and emphasised the importance of united global efforts to combat terrorism. He expressed confidence that stronger parliamentary ties will further enrich the longstanding partnership between the two countries.
