At least 64 people have died after being struck by lightning in the past three days in different parts Bangladesh. Police said, many of the dead were farmers, including women, who were in their farmlands.

Meteorological office said the lightening was accompanied with thundershowers in 14 districts including Dhaka. More rains and thundershowers are predicted in the coming few days.

Bangladesh is prone to electrical storms, but this year they have been particularly severe. Experts say, general rise in temperatures and deforestation may be the factors.

About 90 people have been killed by lightning since March, compared to a total of 51 people in the whole of 2015.
