JADHAV MOTHER & WIFE

JADHAB MET FAMILY

AMN / ISLAMABAD

Kulbhushan Jadhav’s wife and mother today met him in Islamabad. According to Pakistani media, during the meeting, only Jadhav’s family members were present with him, while Singh and Pak officials, who were monitoring the meeting, were outside the room.

India has requested that the family should not have any interaction with the media, the FO spokesperson said.

Jadhav is in a Pakistani jail facing death sentence on charges of espionage. India had approached the International Court of Justice against his execution which was later halted by ICJ pending the final verdict.

New Delhi has been maintaining that Jadhav, a retired Navy officer, was kidnapped from Iran where he had some business interest.

Pakistan has repeatedly denied India consular access to Jadhav.

Jadhav’s mother, Avanti, and wife, Chetankul, made a stop at the Indian High Commission prior to the meeting with the Kulbhushan.

Pakistan on December 20 issued visa to Jadhav’s wife and mother to visit Islamabad to meet him.

47 years old Jadhav was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on charges of espionage and terrorism in April, following which India moved the International Court of Justice in May.

The ICJ had halted his execution on India’s appeal pending the final verdict by it.

Jadhav’s family had applied for visas last week.

They are accompanied by Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh and three Indian foreign ministry officials, according to reports. In addition to the Indian envoy, a couple of Pak officials were also reportedly present during the 30-minute meeting, according to DawnNews.

They are expected to catch a flight back to India this evening after the meeting takes place.
