Ranchi: JSSC-CGL job holders staged a protest march outside the state secretariat, demanding restoration of their jobs after the cancellation of the examination.

The political and administrative situation in Ranchi has taken a complex turn following the state government’s decision to scrap the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (JSSC-CGL) examination and all recruitment tests conducted by a private agency since 2014.

While the move came in response to prolonged agitations and hunger strikes led by job aspirants alleging paper leaks and irregularities, it has instantly sparked a counter-protest.

Thousands of candidates who successfully cleared the examinations, completed legal document verifications, and joined their respective government posts are now out on the streets. Gathered outside the state secretariat, these appointees questioned the rationale of a blanket cancellation that penalizes candidates who earned their positions through merit. Many affected individuals pointed out that they had previously resigned from central government or railway positions to take up employment in their home state, and are now left stranded without jobs or recourse due to crossed age limits.

While student factions spearheading the original protests celebrated the cancellation as a historic win for transparency, the fresh wave of demonstrations by selected personnel has highlighted a deep policy dilemma: balancing systemic anti-corruption measures with the job security of candidates demanding to know their fault.
