The US has said that the Iranian government should respect the rights of its citizens to protest peacefully. White House Press Secretary, Sarah Sanders said in a statement in Washington that there are many reports of peaceful protests by Iranian citizens against the regime’s corruption and its squandering of the nation’s wealth to fund terrorism abroad.

She said the Iranian government should respect people’s rights, including their right to express themselves. In a separate statement, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said, the US strongly condemned reports of arrests of peaceful protestors and urge all nations to publicly support the Iranian people and their demands for basic rights and an end to corruption.

Hundreds of people took to the streets of Mashhad and other cities on Thursday against rising prices. Iranian official said that 52 protestors were arrested in Mashhad.
