Talking to media here at a joint press conference with Home Minister P Chidambaram, the US Secretary for Homeland Security, Ms Janet Napolitano said that ‘after the trial is over in the Chicago court, India will be given more access to question the accused’.

India and the United States have also called for effective steps by world community to eliminate safe havens and infrastructure of terrorism. Both the country asked Pakistan to move expeditiously in prosecuting those involved in Mumbai terror attacks.

During the first Homeland Security Dialogue, the two leaders discussed cooperation in the investigations into 2008 Mumbai attacks and committed to expand bilateral cooperation to further strengthen their capacity to secure their countries.

Napolitano said the US and India faced common threats and they must develop common approaches to deal with it. Napolitano said the Lashkar-e-Toiba is as dangerous an organisation as al Qaeda as they seek to take innocent lives

Chidambaram charged Pakistan of using terror as an instrument of state policy. He said the state structure in Pakistan has become fragile which is a cause of concern for India. The next round of dialogue will be held in Washington next year.
