India today released 39 Pakistani prisoners languishing in jails across the country as a goodwill gesture. The prisoners include 14 Pakistanis who have served out their sentences in India and 25 fishermen.
These fishermen were arrested for entering Indian waters by mistake while fishing and completed their sentence of 8 to 12 months in Kuchh Bhuj Jail of Gujrat. The other 14 prisoners are those who were arrested for living illegally in India after expiry of their visas and they were released from jails of Gujarat, Alwar in Rajasthan, Amritsar and Madya Pardesh after completing the sentence of 1 to 6 years.
Border security forces handed over these prisoners to Pak rangers at Attari Wahga border this afternoon.
