India’s evolving global diplomacy saw two key developments this week—stronger defence alignment with Japan and improved travel access through France—highlighting New Delhi’s dual focus on security cooperation and global mobility.
India–Japan Ties Get Strategic Boost
India has welcomed Japan’s move to review its long-standing principles governing the transfer of defence equipment and technology. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, defence and security cooperation remains a cornerstone of the India–Japan “Special Strategic and Global Partnership.”
Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that both countries are committed to expanding practical cooperation under their joint security framework. This includes deeper collaboration between government institutions and private sector players, particularly in critical and emerging technologies.
The move is expected to strengthen industrial resilience and supply chains in sectors vital to national security, while also reinforcing economic dynamism in both nations.
France Opens Visa-Free Transit for Indians
In a parallel development, India has welcomed France’s decision to operationalise visa-free airport transit for Indian nationals. Effective April 10, Indian passport holders transiting through French airports will no longer require a transit visa—provided they remain within the airport.
This decision stems from agreements reached earlier this year between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron.
The move is expected to significantly ease international travel for Indian passengers, while further strengthening the India–France strategic partnership and enhancing people-to-people connectivity.
