The Indian meteorological department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in Kerala from today to Tuesday. As per met department, the low pressure formed near Lakshadweep in the Arabian Sea is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by today evening or early morning tomorrow.

As the storm would move towards the Oman coast, though it will not affect Kerala directly there will be strong winds and heavy rains in Kerala. Based on the predictions, the state government has put its state machinery on high . Meanwhile, considering heavy rain predictions, shutters of the most dams have been kept open.

Some parts of the state including Kochi, Thrissur and Malappuram received heavy rains on Friday. A red has been announced in Idukki and Malappuram and orange is applicable to Pathanamthitta and Wayanad districts.

As per government sources, five teams of the National Disaster Response Force have arrived in the state and they would be deployed in Wayanad, Palakkad, Idukki, Pathanamthitta and Kozhikode. The Indian Navy has put its air and surface assets at Kochi on high .

Meanwhile, ACCORDING to the shutters of the majority of the dams have been kept open. With the opening of the Idukki dam, 13 of the 14 dams under the electricity board have been opened.A warning has been issued to people living on the banks of rivers including the Pamba and Periyar.
The Met department has also predicted Heavy tovery heavy rain at isolated places over Tamilnadu & Puducherry and heavyrain at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Coastal & SouthInterior Karnataka from today to Wednesday.
