Haryana CM terms Punjab’s resolution on SYL as gross violation of SC’s orders

TIA NEWS

Haryana Chief Minister Mr Manohar Lal has described the resolution passed by Punjab Vidhan Sabha today on SYL canal issue as gross violation of the orders of the Supreme Court and hoped that the Supreme Court would take serious note of it.

Punjab Vidhan Sabha today passed as resolution stating that they would not allow construction of Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal at any cost. The resolution also stated that neither there was ever any need to construct the SYL Canal nor it is today.

Haryaan CM said that the Supreme Court has now given its verdict to maintain the status quo on the issue of Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal. He said that the State Government would present its view point in the Supreme Court along with resolution passed by the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

He said that it appeared, the issue now raised by Punjab aimed at gaining mileage during ensuing elections. Mr Manohar Lal assured the House that Haryana would do everything possible to get its share of Ravi-Beas waters through SYL canal. He said that SYL canal is a life line for the farmers of Haryana and BJP has always been serious on this issue.

Meanwhile, Haryana Irrigation Minister, Mr. O.P. Dhankar, has said that the Sutlej and Yamuna rivers run through the state and state should be given its legitimate share of the waters through the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal. Haryana’s rights on river waters have been conceded repeatedly by the Supreme Court, various committees, the Eradi Tribunal and the Rajiv-Longowal Accord.
