The leaders of France and Germany say they have each called on Turkey to stop its military operation against Kurds in northern Syria.

French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel made the announcement when they spoke to media on Sunday.

Speaking in Paris along side visiting Merkel, Mr Macron said that they have a common desire that this offensive should end.

He warned that Turkish attack in Syria would create an unbearable humanitarian situation and favour resurgence of the Islamic State in the country.

They said the Turkish military invasion is creating a humanitarian crisis.

Turkish troops continue an offensive against Kurds to seize towns and villages in the border region.
