The festival of harvest, Lohri is being celebrated today in North India especially in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Jammu and Chandigarh. Lohri marks the end of the long nights of winter and welcomes the longer days of summer, as the Sun begins its journey to the Northern Hemisphere.

Lohri is celebrated with a bonfire. The festival is mostly associated with crop harvesting and happiness. Popcorns, peanuts, Rewari and Gajak are distributed to all neighbours, friends and relatives on the occasion.

President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla have greeted the fellow citizens living in India and abroad on the occasion.

She also greeted people on the eve of Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Magh Bihu, and Uttarayan. In a social media post, the President said that these harvest festivals are lively manifestations of our heritage to respect Mother Nature. President Murmu expressed that many of these festivals continue to spread love and harmony among the people of the country. The President said her best wishes to all fellow citizens for a bright and prosperous future.

Vice-President Dhankhar in a social media post said, marking the celebration of the harvest season, these festivals embody the spirit of gratitude and reflect the unity in diversity inherent in the fabric of Bharat.
