European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen met a bipartisan delegation from the United States Congress in Davos, Switzerland, to discuss Donald Trump’s threats to acquire Greenland. She emphasised the need to respect Greenland’s and Denmark’s sovereignty and urged close cooperation between the US and NATO to address the security concerns related to Greenland and the Arctic.

She also said tariffs undermine shared EU-US trade interests, responding to Trump’s warning of tariffs on Denmark and other European countries. Earlier, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that the security of Greenland matters, and it will matter more as climate change reshapes the Arctic. He added that the United States will be central to that effort, and the UK stands ready to contribute fully alongside the allies through NATO.
