The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, DRI has seized 23.5 metric tons of Mandrax tablets at Udaipur which are valued at 3 thousand crore rupees in the global market.
Briefing media in New Delhi today, Central Board of Excise and Customs Chairman Najib Shah said, the seizure was done with the active assistance of Border Security Force. Mr Shah said it is one of the largest seizures of sedative and hypnotic medication Methaqualone not only in India but also in the world.
Mr Shah said, the mastermind of the syndicate has been arrested by DRI and follow up operation is underway to nab others involved with the drug syndicate. The banned psychotropic substance is a depressant and overdose of it can lead to coma and death. It is usually smoked mixed with cannabis.
