The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation(DMRC) Monday approved a proposal to increase the minimum fare from 8 rupees to 10 rupees and the maximum from 30 rupees to 50 rupees.
Addressing media in New Delhi, Executive Director of Corporate Communications in DMRC, Anuj Dayal said, the DMRC board has accepted the recommendation of the Fare Fixation Committee(FFC).
The board is headed by Union Urban Development Secretary Rajib Gauba. The new fare slabs will come into effect from Wednesday.
To avoid overcrowding, the panel suggested a special discount on fare price will be given during non-peak hours. 10 percent discount will be given during non-peak hours from 6 to 8 am, 12 to 5 pm and 9 pm to metro closing time.
There will be no change in the fares of Airport Express Line. Mr Dayal said, passenger using smart card will be given 20% discount during off peak hours while 10% discount on smart card will remain unchanged. He informed that the fare revision will be implemented in two phases.
First Phase will be implemented from 10th may 2017 while second phase will be implemented from 1st October 2017. There will be a total of six fare slabs as against the existing 15 fare slabs.The fare structure was last revised in 2009.
The government formed a three-member panel to look into it only in 2016 for revision of the prices.
