Delhi Law Minister Jitendra Singh Tomar has been arrested by Delhi police in Fake Law degree case. He has been taken to Hauz Khas police station for questioning. Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh has confirmed that Mr Tomar has been arrested by the Delhi Police.
Mr Tomar has been facing charges that the academic certificates he submitted while filing nomination for Delhi Assembly polls held in February this year were fake.
Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi refused to respond to queries on the arrest saying he was in the meeting and will speak after getting details of his arrest. A police team had gone to Bihar on the direction of court to investigate charges that he had used fake degrees. The arrest comes amid an escalating turf war between the AAP government and Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung.
AAP leader Sanjay Singh accused the Centre of using pressure tactics against the Delhi government. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has charged the Central government of playing politics of vendetta against the AAP government. Briefing reporters in New Delhi this afternoon, Mr Sisodia said, emergency like situation is being created in the city through Lieutenant Governor at a time when AAP government is taking steps against corruption. He said, Delhi Law Minister Jitendra Singh Tomar was treated like a criminal while he was being arrested by the police. Mr Sisodia said, people have voted the AAP government to power to fight against corruption and those who will try to come in its way, will not be spared. Mr Sisodia said, appointment of Joint Commissioner as head of Anti Corruption Branch is illegal as there is no such post.
Congress leader and former Union Law minister M Veerappa Moily said it was very unfortunate that a law minister had forged degree. Mr Moily said law will take it own course. Congress today demanded removal of Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar from government in connection with fake law degree case. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, party spokesperson Ajay Maken said, the arrest of Mr Tomar has exposed Aam Aadmi Party’s so called claims of transparency. He said, it is unfortunate that degree of Law Minister’s of Delhi government has been been found to be fake.
BJP has demanded resignation of Delhi Law Minister Jitendra Singh Tomar in the fake degree case. Talking to AIR, Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay said, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should have taken cognizance of the case and should have removed him. He said, if the Chief Minister had take the action, the arrest of Mr Tomar as Minister could have been avoided. BJP today said the law will take its own course in the fake degree case of Delhi Law Minister Jitendra Singh Tomar. Talking to AIR, party spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said, AAP’s expectation of special treatment from police is deplorable. He said, it is a pure case of fake degree and there is no conspiracy.
Meanwhile, scores of Aam Aadmi Party workers are demonstrating in South Delhi against the arrest of the Law Minister.
