Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday reviewed the overall security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The review meeting was held at 15th Corps head quarters at Badami Bagh in Srinagar.

The Defence Minister reached Srinagar after completing his maiden visit to Siachen Glacier, world’s highest battle ground.

Mr Singh was given a detailed briefing about the latest situation in the border areas and in the hinterland.

Chief of northern army command, Lt. General Ranbir Singh and General Officer commanding 15th corps, Lt. General K.S Dhilon also briefed the Defence Minister about the successful counter terrorism operations in the Valley and perfect synergy between various security agencies. This was the first visit of Mr Singh to the valley after assuming charge as the defence minister.

Earlier, the Defence Minister visited Siachen Glacier and reviewed the security situation along the borders with Pakistan. He was accompanied by Army Chief General Bipin Rawat. Mr Singh interacted with the Army personnel serving in the region.

In a series of tweets, the Defence Minister said, country’s soldiers in Siachen are performing their duty with great courage and fortitude even in extreme conditions and treacherous terrain. He saluted their vigour and valour. Mr Singh also paid tributes to the martyred soldiers who sacrificed their lives while serving in the region.

The Defence Minister was also given presentations on functioning of 14 and 15 corps, including the Army’s overall preparedness.
The Army’s 14 Corps guards the Line of Actual Control with China as well as the Line of Control with Pakistan. The Srinagar-based 15 Corp is mainly tasked with carrying out anti-terror operations in the Kashmir valley.
