Five more dead bodies were recovered today from the landslide hit region in Rajamala in Idukki district in Kerala and with this death toll reached 22. A massive landslide hit Rajamala in Idukki district yesterday. The official death toll in the landslide had reached 22. Rescue and search operations are on war footing as nearly 43 people are still reportedly missing. 12 people were rescued from the site, who are presently admitted in nearby hospitals. Adverse weather is hampering the ongoing relief operations.
Heavy rain is continuing across the State mainly Central and Northern Kerala.High is continuing as major rivers are overflowing and shutters of dams are being raised.Low lying regions are in flood like situation and the coastal regions are facing rampant sea erosion. Meanwhile fisher men with boats have left from Kollam for rescue operations in Pattanmathitta as water level in Pampa river is rising. Red warning is issued in Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Wayand districts and orange warning in 8 other districts today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of 2 lakh rupees each from PMNRF to the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to a landslide in Rajamalai, Idukki. He said in a tweet that 50 thousand rupees each would be given to those injured due to the landslide.
