At least 82 people have been killed and more than 70 injured in an explosion in Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh.

Massive blast occurred around 9 am in a house near Petlavad bus Stand 60 km from Jhabua district head quarter.

House cum godown which is used as a store-house for gelatin rods used in mining as an explosive, caught fire.

Explosions were followed by a minor cylinder blast in the adjoining restaurant. As per the district administration, number of deaths may increase as some of the injured treated in local hospitals of Jhabua, Petlaved and Ratlam are in critical stage.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh has expressed his condolence and announced compensation of Rs. Two lakh to the family members of each deceased, while 50,000 would be paid to each injured person.
