The students of the Hyderabad Central University continue their agitation over Rohith Vemula’s suicide despite the University authorities lifting the suspension on four students. The University Executive Council yesterday revoked the suspension with immediate effect, considering extraordinary situation prevailing on the University campus.
These students were suspended earlier from accessing hostel, library and cafe in the University campus along with Rohith, the research scholar who committed suicide. The students’ Joint Action Committee told reporters that they rejected the University decision and refused to talk to the two-member faculty team sent by Vice Chancellor. The students insisted on their demand for removal of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Appa Rao.
Meanwhile, demanding an apology from the Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani for allegedly misleading the nation, over a dozen faculty members and officers belonged to SC and ST community put in their resignation papers from their administrative posts yesterday.
Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejrival who visited the campus yesterday, demanded for inclusion of HRD Minister’s name in the FIR.
