Normal life was thrown out of gear after Cyclone in Arabian Sea caused torrential rain and gusty wind in Coastal Karnataka, claiming one life in Mangalore city.
Four fishermen from Tamil Nadu were rescued by Coastal Guards in Karwar, as their boat capsized at Honnavara. In all six Fishermen had ventured into sea despite warning and they were returning after fishing when a heavy wave capsized their boat. Search is on for other two missing fishermen.
In the impact of rain, which was accompanied by gusty wind and lightning, many trees were uprooted, houses were submerged and electric polls have fallen forcing authorities to disconnect electricity supply in rural areas as safety measure.
Schools and Colleges have declared holiday for two days. The MeT office has forecast rain for next 48 hours. Wind is blowing at a speed of 40 to 50 kmph and likely to be 60 kmph in Coastal Karnataka during the night. The authorities have warned people living in the shores to move to safe places as rain is expected to continue tonight as well. Authorities have geared up to meet the eventuality.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to officials and asked them to ensure all possible assistance in the heavy rain affected areas of Karnataka. In a tweet, Mr Modi said he prays for the safety and well-being of all those affected by the heavy rain.
