COVID UPDATES: Delhi sees sharp drop in case; TN becomes second-worst-hit state

With a daily increase of 18,522 in total cases, India’s tally has risen from 548,318 to 566,840, an increase of 3.4%. Death toll has reached 16,893, with 418 fatalities in a day. India is the fourth-most-affected country by total cases, and eighth by death toll.

Here are the gist from the coronavirus data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Tuesday (June 30, 2020):

With a daily increase of 18,522 in total cases, India’s tally has risen from 548,318 to 566,840, an increase of 3.4%. Death toll has reached 16,893, with 418 fatalities in a day. India is the fourth-most-affected country by total cases, and eighth by death toll.

The net increase in active cases across India is 5,005, compared with 7,069 on Monday. The states that have reported the biggest 24-hour jump in active cases are Maharashtra (2,691), Tamil Nadu (1,675), Karnataka (910), Telangana (559), and Rajasthan (376).

With 13,099 new recoveries being reported, India’s recovery rate has improved marginally to 59.1%; death rate remains unchanged at 3%.

India’s new daily closed cases stand at 13,517 — 418 deaths and 13,099 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 3.09%.

India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 3.7%.
India’s doubling time for total cases has increased to 20.9 days, and that for active cases to 29.4 days. Doubling time for deaths, meanwhile, stands at 27.7 days.

The states and UTs that have seen their respective sharpest single-day spikes in total cases are Tamil Nadu (3,949), West Bengal (624), Gujarat (618), Assam (546), Bihar (428), and A&N Islands (14).
Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Maharashtra (5,257), Tamil Nadu (3,949), Delhi (2,084), Karnataka (1,105), and Telangana (975).

Among states with more than 5,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Telangana (36.3%), Andhra Pradesh (44.9%), Maharashtra (52.4%), Karnataka (53.7%), and Tamil Nadu (55.4%).

Five states with the highest test positivity rate – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection – are Maharashtra and Telangana (17.6%), Delhi (16.1%), Gujarat (8.5%), and Tamil Nadu (7.2%).
Five most affected states by total tally of cases are Maharashtra (169,883), Tamil Nadu (86,224), Delhi (85,161), Gujarat (31,938), and Uttar Pradesh (22,828).

Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has for reported a net addition of 5,257 cases. Its total tally has reached 169,883, which is 30% of all cases in India.

Tamil Nadu, which has reported its biggest single-day jump of 3,949 cases, has added more than 3,000 cases on each of the past 5 days.

Delhi has seen its case tally rising by 2,084, including 57 deaths. Its net addition of cases today is the lowest since June 17.

Telangana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have seen a surge in the past few days. In the past 7 days alone, they have added 44%, 34%, and 33% of their respective total counts.
