In a move aimed at countering fake news, misinformation and false narratives on social media, the Centre has decided to set up Quick Response Teams (QRTs) across all central ministries and departments.
According to senior government officials, the decision has been taken in view of the growing spread of negative propaganda and misleading information on social media platforms.
Interestingly, QRTs are already functioning in the armed forces and paramilitary organisations to respond swiftly to misinformation and emerging narratives.
All 56 central ministries and departments will have dedicated QRT sections, with the concerned Joint Secretary overseeing their functioning, officials said.
Meanwhile, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) already has a fact-checking unit tasked with identifying, busting and rebutting fake or misleading information related to the government.
