Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare JP Nadda today announced that government would establish 20 State Cancer Institutes and 50 Tertiary Care Cancer Centres in the country . He said that these institutes and centres will mentor all cancer related activities in their respective areas. He was addressing a gathering after performing the bhumi poojan of the National Cancer Institute at Badhsa village in Jhajjar.
The Union Minister said that the institute is being constructed at a cost of two thousand 35 crore rupees in 32 acres of land as per the norms of World Health Organisation. Terming it independent India’s largest Government Funded Hospital Project the minister said that the National Cancer Centre will act as an apex body for the network of the state cancer institutes and Tertiary Care Cancer Centres.
He said that Institute will have 710 beds out of which 200 beds will be dedicated for Translational Research in India specific cancers. He said that the institute will have 372 units of flats and 1080 hostel rooms for the staff members.
