Talking to media persons, the state BJP president Ranjit Dutta said that his party would give representation to all the ethnic groups including Muslims in the distribution of tickets for the forthcoming assembly polls. “We will give tickets to Assamese Muslim as candidate for the first time in the state,” he said adding that there would be many more minority candidates in the party next list, especially for the Lower Assam districts.

He accused ruling Congress party for ignoring Assamese Muslims to keep the Muslim voters of Bangladesh origin in good humour.
“The Congress party may have many Muslim MLAs but the party never gave opportunity to any Assamese Muslim even after their sizeable population,” said Dutta
