Bangladesh Supreme Court has issued contempt notices against 2 cabinet ministers for criticising country’s Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha. Food Minister Qamrul Islam and Liberation War Affairs Minister Mozammel Haque are summoned before the apex court on 15th March.
They will have to explain their comments over the appeal case of convicted war criminal Mir Quasem Ali. Expressing doubts about the intention of the Chief Justice regarding the verdict in the case, the ministers had said the appeal case should be reheard by a new bench of the Appellate Division excluding the Chief Justice.
During the hearing of the case on 23rd February, Chief Justice Sinha had pulled up the prosecutors and investigation agency members for their failure in proving some charges against Mir Quasem.
