All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), RJD and JD(U) have announced a grand alliance in Assam and invited Congress to join them in the forthcoming Assam Assembly polls.

AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal told media in Guwahati yesterday that on the lines of the recent Bihar polls, they wanted a grand alliance in Assam of all secular parties to jointly fight BJP. He said, they had a discussion with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD Chief Lalu Prasad in this regard, and has asked Congress to join them.

AIUDF will contest around 76 seats and announced a list of 19 candidates for the second phase yesterday. A list of 23 candidates for the first phase has already been announced.

Both JD(U) and RJD will contest around 12 seats and they have announced a list of five candidates each.
