Witchcraft practice is rampant in several districts of Assam. At least 5 people were killed, suspected of practicing witchcraft, in Central and Upper Assam last week.
The evil practice is also rampant in a few places of Lower Assam as well. Recently, the Assam State Commission for Women in collaboration with Assam Police, has revived the Project Prahari, an initiative of the state police, started to combat the evil practice. Street drama, distribution of leaflets and awareness meetings are being held in the vulnerable areas of the state.
