A delegation of Asom Gana Parishad met Union Home minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi yesterday and expressed concern over the Citizenship Amendment Act. As per media reports, the Centre will amend the act to give citizenship to minority people of neighbouring countries including from Bangladesh.
A press release issued by the party said that the delegation opposed to any move to give citizenship to illegal Bangladeshi violating the spirit of the Assam Accord. Mr. Singh assured to take care of the concerns of the people of the state in this regard. The delegation of Asom Gana Parisahd who is the ruling partner of the BJP in Assam has also met leaders of nine political parties in New Delhi seeking their supports to oppose the amendment.
