Indian athletes continued their strong performance at the ongoing Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, winning several medals across multiple sporting events today.

In Boxing, Lovlina Borgohain clinched a historic gold medal in the women’s 75kg category, defeating China’s Bao Ziyi by a unanimous 5-nil decision in the final. It is India’s second gold medal in women’s boxing at the Asian Games, following Mary Kom’s gold in 2014.

Earlier, India’s women’s recurve archery team created history by winning its maiden Asian Games gold medal. The trio of Ankita Bhakat, Kirti Sharma and Kumkum Mohod defeated world champions South Korea 5-3 in a thrilling final. India won silver in men’s recurve archery team event.

The Men’s team, comprising of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Yashdeep Sanjay Bhoge and Neeraj Chauhan, settled for silver after loosing 1-5 to South Korea in the final.

India also secured a silver medal in the mixed recurve team archery event. The Indian duo of Kumkum Mohod and Dhiraj Bommadevara finished runners-up after losing 3-5 to China in a closely contested final. India also won a bronze medal in Sepaktakraw at the Asian Games today. The Indian men’s quadrant team lost 0-2 to Japan in the semi-final to secure the bronze medal.

In sailing, Nethra Kumanan won the bronze medal in the women’s dinghy event. The 29-year-old Indian sailor finished third with overall 14 points.

With these performances, India climbed to sixth position in the overall medal standings. The country’s medal tally rose to 72 medals, comprising 12 gold, 25 silver and 35 bronze.

President Droupadi Murmu has congratulated Lovlina Borgohain on winning the gold medal in the Women’s 75kg Boxing event at the Asian Games 2026. In a social media post, President Murmu said that her strength, precision and determination in the ring have brought immense pride to the country.

The President said that winning the Gold Medal on her birthday makes the occasion even more special. The President also congratulated Ankita Bhakat, Kumkum Anil Mohod and Kirti on winning the first-ever Gold Medal in the Recurve Women’s Team event in Archery at the Asian Games 2026.

She also congratulated Dhiraj Bommadevara and Kumkum Anil Mohod on winning the Silver Medal in the Recurve Mixed Team event in Archery at the Asian Games 2026. The President said that it is a historic achievement, as your outstanding performance brings India its first-ever Silver Medal in this event.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Ankita Bhakat, Kumkum Anil Mohod and Kirti on winning India’s first-ever Gold Medal in the Women’s Recurve Team event at the Asian Games. In a social media post, Mr Modi said that their composure and precision in a closely fought final were remarkable. He added that this landmark victory will inspire countless young archers across the country.

The Prime Minister also congratulated Dhiraj Bommadevara and Kumkum Anil Mohod on winning the Silver Medal in the Recurve Mixed Team event at the Asian Games. He said that they displayed remarkable skill and zeal, giving the nation the first-ever Silver in this event at the Asian Games.
