Union Home Minister Amit Shah today inaugurated the revamped state-of-the-art Lachit Barphukan Police Academy and laid foundation stone for police academy housing projects at Dergaon.
Speaking on the occassion, the Union Minister said that Assam is developing at a fast pace and peace has returned to the State under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Mr. Shah said that due to efforts of Prime Minister Modi, almost all the militant groups of the State approached for peace talks and many havesurrendered.
There is no violence in the state and as a result business sector is blooming which in turn is providing job opportunities for the youths. He also informed that the Centre will provide 3 lakh crore rupees projets for the state and it will boosts the infrastructure sector.
Speaking on the ocassion, Assam Cheif Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, today is the red letter day for Assam Police and a befitting tribute for the legendary Ahom General Lachit Barphukan. The Cheif Minister informed that the State Government is also planning for a police medical college at the same campus.
Mr. Sarma further said that law and order situation is best in the state compared to the last decades and crime rate has decreased more than 50 percent.
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal said that this state-of-the-art Police Academy will produce best police forces in the country for tackling the new age crimes.
Ministerof State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita and several other dignitaries were present on the ocassion. After the programme at Dergaon, Mr. Shah will depart for Mizoram to attend a programme of Assam Rifles at Aizawl in the afternoon and will return to Guwahati in the evening.
Tomorrow, Mr. Shah will address the 57th Annual Conference of All Bodo Students Union at Dotma in Kokrajhar district and later in the day, will review the Implementation of New Criminal Laws in the North-Eastern States in Guwahati with the Chief Ministers of eight North Eastern states before returning to New Delhi in the evening.
