US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis has said the killing of a top Afghan official would not fundamentally change the security situation in Kandahar province.
He said it is a tragic loss of a patriot for Afghanistan, but he doesn’t see it having a long-term effect on the area.
A security chief and a journalist were killed and three Americans injured in the terrorist attack which was carried out by a gunman at a high-level security meeting yesterday. The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
