In rare gesture Serbia’s first-ever Gay prime minister joined a big rally of gay activists Sunday at a gay pride march, “Pride Parade” under the slogan “We Want a Change” amid tight security in the conservative Balkan country.
the participants were wearing colorful balloons, flags of long colors, and the atmosphere was like a party. Citizens wore transparencies on which he wrote: “For Change” and “On Prajd is coming, Prajd is not called”. After the official end of Parade of Pride, the participants were intent on staying at the Republic Square with music, but heavy rain began.
Representative of the Organizing Committee of Pride Parade, Goran Miletic, announced that the Parade next year will be held in the same week between September 10 and 16 and expect an even larger number of participants than today. “I call you for the next year to be even more, and we will try to make an even better program,” Miltić said.
“The government is here for all citizens and will secure the respect of rights for all citizens,” Brnabic told reporters. “We want to send a signal that diversity makes our society stronger, that together we can do more.”
“It was difficult to imagine a few years ago and, as it is now quite normal, it will be normal for some time to talk about topics we are not ready for today because, as you see it yourself, the limits of the conquest of freedom are shifting we have been making great efforts in the past few years as a society. I believe in this society and the will of our citizens to protect their own and the rights of others, “Brnabic said. On the occasion of the Parade of Pride in Belgrade, Brnabic said in an interview for “Politics” that remarkable progress has been made in recent years regarding the LGBT population, but there are still certain segments where we show confusion and misunderstanding.
