Nagaland bridge collapse: 4 killed & 5 injured

Four people were killed and five others injured when a bridge collapsed in Dimapur on Tuesday. Bridge was located at 5th Mile connecting Pugobuto and Niuland with Dimapur. Several vehicles also damaged in the incident.

According to locals, the bridge was already in a dilapidated condition when the tragedy occurred.

Police and State Disaster Management personnel have reached the spot, but rescue operations are being hampered due to strong currents of the stream, Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur Kesonyu Yhome said, adding, five vehicles were still stuck in the debris.

Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand, heavy rains continue to occur at isolated places. Met department has issued a forecast that further heavy rains and landslides are likely at Uttarkashi in next 36 hours.

Following alert issued by Uttarkashi DM, governmental, non-governmental and Anganbadi centers have been directed to declare today’s off.

Educational institutions will remain closed in the district on Wednesday.
