Five police personnel including Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) and two bank security guards were killed by the suspected militants in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district today.
According to All India Radio, a group of six gunmen in security combat fatigues stopped the cash van of the bank in Pombay village of the district and dragged all the onboard personnel out and killed them on spot.
The gunmen also decamped with 04 INSAS rifles and one AK 47 rifle from the slain personnel.
Sources said that the van after unloading cash at Jammu and Kashmir Bank in Damhal Hanji Pora area was heading towards Kulgam district headquarters.
The cordon and search operation has been launched in the area to nab the attackers. No militant outfit has claimed responsibility of the attack. Details of the incident were awaited.
