President Pranab Mukherjee today said that India was following the parliamentary democracy and constitutional supremacy because of the effort taken by Dr BR Ambedkar.
Speaking at the foundation laying down ceremony of the Bengaluru Dr B R Ambedkar School of Economics at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru today, Mr Mukherjee appealed everyone to follow and practice the thoughts of Dr Ambedkar in order to achieve his goals.
The President also emphasised on the need for India to be a global powerhouse not just in terms of economic parameters but in terms of Gross National Happiness, GNH. Mr Mukherjee said, the concept of development has changed now and international organisations like the World Bank and IMF are talking about development in terms of Gross Domestic Product as well as GNH.
He also said the Government should train and impart skill among the youths and use their potentialities for betterment of society.
Bengaluru Dr.B.R.Ambedkar School of Ecnomics will be built at a cost of 350 crore rupees. The admissions for specialised courses in Economics will begin during 2017-18 academic year. The premier state-run institution, being promoted on the lines of London School of Economics, will mainly be funded by the State government with minor participation of corporate bodies.
