Amjad Hussain B Sial of Pakistan has become new Secretary-General of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). He assumed the charge in Kathmandu yesterday. Outgoing Secretary General Arjun Bahadur Thapa of Nepal had completed his term on Tuesday.
Mr. Sial has 33 years of experience in Pakistan’s foreign service. He has also served at SAARC Secretariat as director in Kathmandu. SAARC Secretary-General tenure is of three years.
Secretary General Sial served as Ambassador of Pakistan to the Republic of Tajikistan from 2011-2014 and Ambassador/Alternate Permanent Representative at Pakistan Mission to the United Nations, New York. Before joining SAARC Secretariat he was Special Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad.
